Adelphi University’s College of Nursing and Public Health offers three AGPCNP pathways:
- MS (online)
- Advanced Certificate (post-master’s, online)
- DNP (advanced standing for certified AGPCNPs, hybrid)
All three require an active New York RN license. Adelphi’s state licensure disclosures list the programs as meeting NP educational requirements in New York only. The post-baccalaureate DNP is not currently accepting applicants, and the in-person MS is paused for new applicants.
Program Tracks Overview
| Program | Est. Tuition (Resident) | Est. Duration | Credit Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| MS AGPCNP (Online) | $44,100 | 28 months | 45 |
| Advanced Certificate (Online) | $33,320 | Six semesters | 34 |
| DNP (Advanced Standing) | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Tuition estimates multiply Adelphi’s 2026–2027 online AGPCNP rate ($980/credit) by the published credit total. Adelphi is private and charges the same rate regardless of state residency. The DNP rate is $1,810/credit, but Adelphi does not publish the advanced-standing credit total.
- Why choose it: The MS and certificate are fully asynchronous with no campus visits, list 750 clinical hours, and include a placement office that helps identify sites, at $980 per credit.
- Trade-off: Every pathway requires a New York RN license, Adelphi says the programs do not meet NP licensure requirements in any other state, and the DNP now admits only certified AGPCNPs.

MS in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
The online MS AGPCNP costs an estimated $44,100 for 45 credits and takes 28 months. It admits RNs with a bachelor’s degree and an active New York RN license. Adelphi has paused the in-person MS for new applicants, so the online format is the current route.
A published conflict worth knowing about. Adelphi’s online program pages and online FAQ state 750 clinical hours for the MS and certificate. The DNP program page, describing the paused post-baccalaureate track, lists 600 hours of NP direct patient care. This page uses 750 because it appears on the current pages for these two programs.
MS AGPCNP Curriculum
The MS is the 34-credit AGPCNP specialty sequence plus 11 credits of graduate nursing foundations. Those foundation courses (theory, informatics, research and statistics, and an ePortfolio) are the only difference from the Advanced Certificate.
The specialty sequence opens with the advanced practice core: pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment with a separate 2-credit lab. A 1-credit cardiac diagnostics course is less common in AGPCNP plans. Clinical work then runs in three paired blocks: each Diagnosis & Management didactic course runs alongside an Adult Health Nursing clinical course. Content moves from cardiac, respiratory, and dermatologic conditions, to GI, GU, women’s health, and mental health, to neurologic, renal, oncology, and infectious disease.

MS AGPCNP Clinical Requirements
- Total hours: 750, across Adult Health Nursing I, II, and III
- Placement: Adelphi’s clinical placement office helps determine a suitable site; students work under qualified preceptors
- Guarantee: Adelphi does not publish a placement guarantee
- Focus areas: primary care, geriatrics, oncology/hematology
- Settings: hospital outpatient clinics, inpatient units, private group practices
- Named sites: Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Elmhurst Hospital Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mount Sinai Morningside, NYU-Winthrop Hospital, VA Medical Centers
- Location: not clearly published
Placement help matters more than usual here. Many online NP programs require students to find their own preceptors, which is a common cause of delayed graduation. Adelphi’s office does not remove that risk entirely, since no guarantee is published. In practice, the New York license requirement and New York-only licensure eligibility point to New York clinical sites, and the named partners are concentrated in New York City and Long Island. Nurses upstate should ask how far they may need to travel.
MS AGPCNP Admissions
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Active New York State RN license
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- College-level statistics course
- Resume and personal statement
- $60 application fee; no GRE
- Up to 6 transfer credits, approved no later than the first semester
- International applicants: NACES course-by-course evaluation, English proficiency scores, and a New York RN license
- Spring 2027: priority deadline September 1, decisions by October 15
- Fall 2027: deadline March 1, decisions by April 15 (listed on the main MS page)
The two MS pages describe admission slightly differently. The online program page asks for a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. The main MS page asks for a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a B or better in all science and nursing courses, and a 500-word essay. Applicants without a BSN should confirm eligibility before applying. The online page lists only a Spring 2027 start.
Advanced Certificate in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
The post-master’s Advanced Certificate costs an estimated $33,320 for 34 credits over six semesters, part time and fully online. It requires an MSN and a New York RN license, but not APRN certification. That opens it to MSN holders in education, leadership, or informatics, not only to NPs adding a population focus.
Advanced Certificate Curriculum
The certificate is the MS specialty sequence without the 11 credits of graduate foundations: 14 courses covering the advanced practice core, cardiac diagnostics, the three Diagnosis & Management and clinical pairs, the NP role course, health promotion, and health policy. Adelphi notes that required coursework may differ after faculty review of prior graduate courses, so an NP with recent pathophysiology, pharmacology, and assessment may take fewer credits. Up to 6 transfer credits are accepted.
See the certificate plan of study in the Adelphi catalog.
Advanced Certificate Clinical Requirements
- Total hours: 750, across three clinical courses
- Placement: the clinical placement office helps locate suitable sites; no guarantee published
- Settings: physician offices, outpatient clinics, long-term care, home healthcare, assisted living
Certificate students complete the same clinical volume as MS students. For a working NP adding AGPCNP, 750 hours is a heavy load on top of a job, so plan the clinical semesters early.
Advanced Certificate Admissions
- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution
- Active New York State RN license
- Minimum 3.0 GPA, with a B or better in all science and nursing courses
- 500-word personal essay, resume, all prior transcripts
- $60 application fee; no GRE or GMAT
- Faculty review of prior coursework (gap analysis)
- Spring 2027: priority deadline September 1, decisions by October 15
Doctor of Nursing Practice in Adult Gerontology Primary Care
The DNP in Adult Gerontology Primary Care is open only through the Advanced Standing track. Applicants need an MSN and current national AGPCNP certification. Tuition is $1,810 per credit for 2026–2027, but Adelphi’s program page does not publish the advanced-standing credit total or completion time, so a total cost cannot be calculated. The program is hybrid and starts in spring only.
The post-baccalaureate DNP, which combined 600 NP clinical hours with 500 DNP project hours, is not currently accepting applicants. BSN-prepared nurses who want an Adelphi AGPCNP credential should use the online MS.
DNP Curriculum
Because entrants are already certified AGPCNPs, the DNP adds doctoral coursework rather than NP clinical training. The core is a three-part DNP project with paired residency hours. Classes meet on Thursday evenings, some online and some on campus, in a half-day format, after a mandatory one-week orientation. Adelphi’s program page does not list courses or credits.
See the DNP plan of study in the Adelphi catalog.
DNP Clinical Requirements
- Total hours: 500 DNP project and residency hours
- Distribution: DNP Project I (100), Project II (200), Project III (200)
- Placement and site policy: not clearly published
Five hundred post-master’s hours is a common DNP design for nurses who bring prior supervised clinical hours from their MSN. The bigger planning issue is campus attendance: recurring Thursday evening sessions in Garden City make this practical mainly for nurses on Long Island or in the New York City area.
DNP Admissions
- Master’s degree in nursing
- National AGPCNP certification (ANCC AGPCNP-BC or AANP AGPCNP-C)
- One year of NP clinical experience (preferred)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA, with a B or better in nursing and science courses
- Three references, at least two from a supervisor or faculty
- 500-word essay on your vision for practice with a DNP
- Faculty interview
- $60 application fee; NACES evaluation for international credentials
- Spring start only; deadline not published on the program page
The certification requirement is the deciding rule. NPs certified in another population, such as FNP, do not meet it as published, and should consider the Advanced Certificate first.
Tuition
Adelphi’s 2026–2027 graduate tuition table lists online nursing programs at $980–$1,900 per credit, and the online MS and certificate pages both state $980 per credit. The AGPCNP DNP is $1,810 per credit. Adelphi is private, so there is no in-state discount.
Adelphi’s DNP tuition page still shows $1,575 per credit, labeled 2022–2023. The university tuition table is newer, so this page uses $1,810. The difference is $235 per credit, or $2,350 for every 10 credits.
| Pathway | Rate | Estimated Tuition |
|---|---|---|
| MS AGPCNP (45 credits) | $980/credit | $44,100 |
| Advanced Certificate (34 credits) | $980/credit | $33,320 |
| DNP (Advanced Standing) | $1,810/credit | Not published |
The MS and certificate totals match the figures Adelphi publishes on its online program pages. Transfer credits or gap-analysis waivers would lower them.
Fees Beyond Tuition
- Mandatory fee, Manhattan/online centers: $385 per semester (1–11 credits); $585 (12+ credits)
- Mandatory fee, Garden City campus: $480 (1–6 credits), $535 (7–11), $800 (12+) per semester
- Application fee: $60
- Textbooks: not included in published totals
At the part-time rate, six certificate semesters add an estimated $2,310 in mandatory fees. Adelphi’s DNP tuition page also lists a 15 percent graduate tuition discount for nurses employed by Northwell Health, NYU Langone Health, or Nassau County Government; that page is dated 2022–2023, so confirm the benefit is current. Adelphi’s $250-per-credit military rate applies to undergraduate programs only.
See Adelphi’s official graduate tuition and fees page.
Why Choose This AGPCNP Program?
Best suited for: New York RNs who want a fully online AGPCNP with no campus visits, above-minimum clinical hours, and help finding clinical sites, and who plan to practice in New York.
New York Licensure Is a Hard Boundary
Admission requires a New York RN license, and Adelphi’s disclosures list all three programs as not meeting NP licensure requirements in any other state. A nurse who may relocate during or after the program takes on real risk. This is the first filter to apply.
750 Clinical Hours With a Placement Office
The online MS and certificate list 750 clinical hours, 250 more than the 500-hour certification minimum. Adelphi’s clinical placement office helps identify sites, which reduces the preceptor search many online students face alone. The extra hours also mean a heavier clinical load for nurses working full time.
An Online Rate Well Below Adelphi’s Campus Rate
At $980 per credit, the 45-credit MS totals $44,100. The same university charges $1,710 per credit for in-person nursing programs, which would put 45 credits at $76,950. The online format is both the only open MS option and the cheaper one.
A Narrow DNP Entry Point
With the post-baccalaureate DNP closed, Adelphi has no BSN-to-DNP route. The advanced-standing DNP serves only certified AGPCNPs who can attend Thursday evening sessions in Garden City, and its credit total and length are not published on the program page.
The Verdict
New York RNs who intend to practice in New York have the strongest reason to choose Adelphi. The online MS and certificate combine no campus travel, 750 clinical hours, and placement support at a published price. MSN holders without NP certification get a direct certificate route. Nurses who may practice outside New York, BSN nurses who want a DNP, and NPs certified in another population who want a doctorate should compare other programs.
Accreditation
Adelphi’s AGPCNP programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Adelphi states that MS graduates are eligible for New York State Adult Health Nurse Practitioner licensure and for AGPCNP board certification through AANP or ANCC.
Adelphi’s state licensure disclosures list the MS, Advanced Certificate, and DNP as meeting NP educational requirements in New York and not meeting them in other states. Applicants should check this page before applying, as determinations can change.
