Master of Science in Nursing – AGPCNP

The estimated cost for the MSN AGPCNP program is $31,970 for non-partners ($30,590 for partners) and would take 2-3 years to complete on a full-time basis.

MSN Curriculum

The 46-credit curriculum prepares students to diagnose and manage common and complex medical conditions for adolescents and adults through theoretical foundations and clinical experiences.

NUR 522 Diagnosis and Management of Common Health Conditions in Adults/Older Adults I (7 credits)
This course starts the diagnosis and management sequence for AGPCNP primary care. Students apply advanced assessment data to diagnose and treat acute, episodic, and chronic conditions using current evidence-based guidelines. The course also covers prevention, population health, and real-world factors that affect care decisions, and it includes a 224-hour supervised clinical experience.

NUR 523 Diagnosis and Management of Common Health Conditions in Adult/Older Adults I Clinical (0 credits)
This course is the clinical practicum paired with NUR 522. Students complete 224 clinical hours focused on primary care assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and treatment planning under preceptor and faculty oversight.

NUR 524 Diagnosis and Management of Common Health Conditions in Adults/Older Adults II (6 credits)
This course continues development of diagnostic reasoning and clinical management for adolescents through older adults. Students strengthen evidence-based management of acute and chronic problems while working with families, caregivers, and diverse populations. The course includes 168 supervised clinical hours across varied practice settings.

NUR 525 Diagnosis and Management of Common Health Conditions in Adults/Older Adults II Clinical (0 credits)
This course is the clinical practicum paired with NUR 524. Students complete 168 clinical hours to apply diagnosis and management skills in primary care with preceptor guidance.

NUR 554 Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Seminar (7 credits)
This course serves as the final diagnosis and management experience and emphasizes practice immersion. Students refine diagnostic accuracy, build autonomy in clinical decisions, and integrate care for complex syndromes within team-based systems. The course includes 336 supervised clinical hours and supports role transition to entry-level NP practice.

NUR 555 Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Seminar Clinical (0 credits)
This course is the clinical practicum paired with NUR 554. Students complete 336 clinical hours with a focus on independent decision making, collaborative practice, and advanced management skills.

NUR 556 Comprehensive Care of Older Adults (3 credits)
This course focuses on high-quality, cost-aware care for older adults, including frailty and atypical presentations. Students study aging theory and physiology and apply evidence-based guidelines to common geriatric syndromes. The course includes 56 clinical hours and addresses caregiver and community support needs.

NUR 557 Comprehensive Care of Older Adults Clinical (0 credits)
This course is the clinical practicum paired with NUR 556. Students complete 56 clinical hours focused on geriatric assessment, syndrome management, and care planning in real practice settings.

MSN Clinicals

Students complete 784 direct care clinical hours across four clinical courses.

Clinical experiences occur in various practice settings including inpatient and outpatient environments, with emphasis on primary care for adolescents, adults, and older adults.

Students progress from basic clinical decision-making skills to autonomous practice as beginning nurse practitioners, culminating in care for individuals with complex illness presentations.

MSN Admissions Requirements

  • BSN from CNEA or CCNE accredited program
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Valid Pennsylvania or Maryland multistate RN license in good standing
  • One year of professional RN experience required
  • Personal mentoring with qualified faculty provided
  • Academic advising through Graduate Nursing Department

Post-Master’s Certificate – AGPCNP

The estimated cost for the Post-Master’s Certificate program is $15,285 for non-partners ($14,620 for partners) and would take 12 months to complete on a full-time basis.

The 23-credit certificate includes 784 direct care clinical hours and builds on existing graduate nursing education.

Certificate Clinicals

Students complete 784 direct care clinical hours (224 hours in NUR 522/523, 168 hours in NUR 524/525, 336 hours in NUR 554/555, and 56 hours in NUR 556/557).

Post-master’s students not currently practicing as NPs must complete 56 hours of clinical experience with a nurse practitioner prior to enrolling in the first clinical course (NUR 522).

Students who don’t meet this requirement register for one credit of independent study (NUR 698) during the semester prior to NUR 522 to practice history taking and physical exam skills.

Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing requires 45-hour advanced pharmacology course within five years prior to application for prescriptive privileges.

Certificate Admissions Requirements

  • BSN and advanced practice MSN from CNEA or CCNE accredited program at regionally accredited institution
  • Gap analysis performed to determine additional core coursework requirements
  • Transcripts reviewed for substantial similarity to York College degree requirements
  • Current NP practitioners may need to demonstrate complete physical exam performance before NUR 522
  • Post-master’s students planning Pennsylvania prescriptive privileges need advanced pharmacology course within five years of program completion
  • Academic advising provided through Graduate Nursing Department
  • Personal mentoring with highly qualified faculty

Tuition

Graduate nursing tuition is $695 per credit for non-partners and $665 per credit for partners for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Accreditation

The MSN program, Post-Master’s Certificate program, and post-graduate APRN certificate program at York College of Pennsylvania are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the national AGPCNP certification exam through ANCC.
